Quarter Horses Bred With Purpose

Cadence Quarter Horses is a small breeding program based in NSW, producing registered AQHA horses with the temperament, athletic ability and cow sense to make genuinely useful horses.

We focus on thoughtful crosses, proven bloodlines and young horses that are given the right start from day one.

Meet Our Horses

Our breeding program starts with the mares we choose to build around and the crosses we believe will complement them.

We breed for the horse we would want to own ourselves. Athletic, trainable, good-minded and useful, with the pedigree to support what we are trying to produce.

A Thoughtful Breeding Program

Every mating at Cadence starts with the individual mare.

We look at her strengths, her pedigree, her temperament and the areas where the right stallion may add something valuable. From there we choose a cross with a clear purpose rather than simply following a fashionable name or colour.

Our interests sit firmly in the western performance horse, particularly cow horse, cutting and ranch bred Quarter Horses. We value athleticism and cattle ability, but just as importantly, we want horses with good minds that people enjoy working with.

What We Breed For

There is no single trait that makes a good Quarter Horse.

The horses we want to breed need enough athletic ability to do a job, the mind to learn it and the temperament to remain useful well beyond the show pen.

Athleticism

We look for balance, movement, strength and the natural ability required for western performance disciplines.

Cow Sense

Our breeding program draws heavily from performance bloodlines with proven cattle ability and working horse heritage.

Trainability

Talent means very little without a willing mind. We place a high value on horses that are responsive, curious and straightforward to work with.

Temperament

We want capable horses that are also enjoyable horses. Temperament is considered in every breeding decision we make.

Responsible Breeding

All Cadence-bred foals eligible for AQHA registration will be registered, with pedigree, parentage and relevant genetic testing recorded and made available to buyers.

From the Journal

Our Journal is where we share more about the thinking behind the breeding program.

We cover bloodlines, genetics, individual crosses, foal development and some of the horses that have influenced the direction of Cadence Quarter Horses.
