About Us
Cadence Quarter Horses is a small breeding program based across two family properties on the NSW Central Coast and in the NSW Central West.
We are breeding Quarter Horses with good minds, natural cow ability and the versatility to compete, work and remain sensible members of the family.
How Cadence Began
Horses have been part of Tom’s life for as long as he can remember. Family horses were putting their heads into his pram before he could walk, and from his first pony, a Shetland named Dainty, through to a childhood spent obsessed with The Man from Snowy River, the idea of breeding his own horses was always there.
After establishing a career in the music industry, COVID brought Tom back to horses and country life. He began riding again, studying pedigrees and searching for the mares that would form the foundation of Cadence Quarter Horses.
The first Cadence foal crop arrives in 2026, with the program being developed with the guidance of experienced Quarter Horse breeders in Australia.
What We Are Breeding For
Our aim is to breed calm, trainable and consistent Quarter Horses with plenty of natural cow ability.
We want horses capable of competing in cutting, sorting, team penning, cow horse and ranch events, without losing the temperament that makes them useful and enjoyable outside the arena.
Health comes first in every breeding decision. We use genetic screening, knowledge of performance bloodlines and colour genetics to make informed choices about each cross. Colour is part of the picture, but never the reason for making a breeding decision. We do have a soft spot for a good roan.
Raised to Be Horses
Our foals and young stock are raised in large paddocks with hills, cattle, dogs, vehicles and the everyday activity of a working property around them.
They receive regular, age-appropriate handling including leading, feet and floating, with the aim of producing confident young horses that are straightforward to continue with.
